University of Debrecen: within the 700 best universities

It is the first time that four Hungarian higher education institutions, amongst them the University of Debrecen, is on the best universities’ list.

The University of Szeged was ranked between 501-550., the Corvinus University and Eötvös Loránd University between 551-600., while the University of Debrecen between the 601-700 on the list of Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). The top ranking universities of the list are the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA), Cambridge (UK) and Harvard (USA).

Every year since 2004, QS Quacquarelli Symonds prepares the list of top universities. There are 6 aspects they examine, amongst which there are: the ratio between students and teachers, the frequency of the citation of academic work carried out in the university and the ratio of the international mobility.

At the University of Debrecen there are 3.300 international students from 67 different countries. In this aspect the institute outnumbers their competitors in this category.

In the preparation of the QS rankings the following aspects and the proportion of their importance which are taken into consideration.

• Academic (instructors’, researchers’ ) reviews: 40%

• Employer’s opinion: 10%

• Instructor / student ratio: 20%

• The size of the institution: 20%

• proportion of foreign teachers: 5%

• proportion of foreign students: 5%

This is the result of the hard work of many years. As for the future, we will be working to reach better and better rankings every year- emphasized István Fábián.
