After a hundred years, there will be a fencer from Debrecen at the Olympics

The presidency of the Hungarian Fencing Association last night appointed the XXXII. Hungarian national team traveling to the Summer Olympics. The fencer of Interfencing Debrecen Sports Club, Katinka Battai Sugár, can participate in the Olympics as a member of the women’s sword team. With the decision, it became certain that after the silver medal won by Béla Békessy in Stockholm in 1912, after 109 years Katinka Battai Sugár, who is from Debrecen will be a participant in the summer games.

The women’s sword team, formed by Anna Márton, Liza Pusztai, Renát Katona and Katinka Battai Sugár, qualified for the Olympics for the first time. The Hungarian national team can expect the Tokyo start from the 5th place in the world ranking. Federal coach Gábor Gárdos and federal captain Gábor Udvarhelyi count on László Dávid’s student in the team competition.
